As a traditional dress for Chinese women, the cheongsam has continued for over a century. It is a typical representative of Chinese dress culture. The cheongsam has become a classic symbol of Chinese beauty, spanning both sides of the Taiwan Strait and the West.
This film will travel back in time to see how the cheongsam has evolved through the dynasties as a Chinese national costume. The documentary also explores how such dressing maintains a high degree of unity between functionality and aesthetic expression as a costume, recreating Chinese women's beauty and culture. In this quest for cultural beauty, we will look at three dimensions: fashion, feminism and new oriental aesthetics. We will awaken the true story of "Chinese beauty" and present a wholly different and moving story of cheongsam and fashion, culture and city.
This film won the Silk Road TV International Cooperation Community Summit - Golden Ribbon Award for Outstanding Documentary.
