For over 20 years, Tian Haojiang has been a baas singer in the USA at the Metropolitan in New York. Singing countless opera from the Western classics, he realized that Chinese poems could actually be sing on stage with the proper training. That’s how in 2010 he decided to create with his spouse and his closest friends “ising!”, an annual music festival in Hangzhou.
As the world, and especially places of cultures, was shut down by the Covid-19 pandemic, Haojiang and his team decided against all odds to put up another festival. Bringing a dozen of singers from all over the world who don’t speak a word of Chinese, they have to put on their best show where the 14 most famous Tang Dynasty poems will be sing for the Chinese public.
